The Seaview Tavern
Ireland's most northerly licensed restaurant and Tavern
The Seaview Tavern was known as Barney Grant's before being purchased by William Matthew and Vera Doherty (Doc) in 1973. Sadly Willie died in August 2000 and Vera in July 2004.The original thatched-roofed pub has seen many changes. Willie and Vera's son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Caitriona, are presently improving the premises. They now boast a full A-La-Carte Restaurant menu, and the business gained the distinction of being both Dining pub and Restaurant of the year 2001. Bar food and Lunch specials are served daily with the emphasis on local produce including fresh seafood from the local pier. Mussels, oysters, crab and salmon are just some of the succulent seafoods available throughout most of the year.
Michael and Caitriona spent 12 years in New York where Caitriona worked in a restaurant. It was from the experience gained there that The Seaview is able to boast of having probably the finest steaks in this part of the world. One of the Tavern's proudest accolades came from a chef who works for another famous restaurant in this area when he said,
'This is the finest steak I have ever tasted'
The Seaview caters for coach parties, functions, etc. Small and large parties, ranging from 20 to 150 persons are regularly accommodated. Anniversaries, Birthdays, Christenings, etc. all receive personalised attention from Michael and Caitriona who will make every effort to make your occasion a special one to remember.
The Seaview also has pool and darts nightly. Eric Bristow
'The Crafty Cockney' was overwhelmed by the hospitality he received from the local players and over 200 people watched the master perform some of his famous trick shots.
The Malin Head Sports are held every year in the field directly behind the Seaview and a large crowd is guaranteed. There is something for everyone from the youngest to the oldest. Football, tug of war, swing-boats, dodgems etc. are just some of the events on the day.
The Seaview has without doubt the finest scenery. Looking beyond the pier, the Scottish Highlands and Islands, and Ireland's most northerly lighthouse Inishtrahull, can be viewed from its restaurant windows.
Live entertainment is held every weekend and 5 nights weekly during the summer months. Revels Glen, a well known Boston group, plays at The Seaview every year when they have their annual 'pint around Ireland' tour. Spontaneous sessions are a must at the Seaview - so if you can play, sing, recite, we want to hear from you!!!!!
So the next time you visit Malin Head or Inishowen be sure and stop at the Seaview where you will be guaranteed great food, hospitality and great craic
